Carroll Shelby Experimental #2242 is well documented in the Shelby American World Registry. Invoiced on February 27, 1964 to Fergus Ford of Skokie, Illinois, it was equipped with the Class A accessory package, which included chromed 5.5-inch wire wheels with "AC" knock-offs, a quick-fill fuel cap, dash-mounted rear-view mirror, wind wings, radio and antenna and chromed bumperettes.

After a lengthy stay on the showroom floor, the car eventually sold to a buyer from Texas in the mid-late sixties. In 1969 it was purchased from the first owner by Clark Van Norstrum of Greenwich, CT, who added four 2-barrel downdraft Weber carburetors, a roll bar and a hood scoop. Mr. Van Nostrum owned the car for 27 years until advertising it for sale in 1996 as a Red car with Black interior. Van Nostrum sold the Cobra to R. Leblanc of Los Gatos, CA who in turn sold it to the current owner in 2004.

CSX2242 is now fresh from a complete bare-metal restoration during which the hood scoop was removed and a dual 4-barrel manifold and carburetor refitted to return it to its original configuration. An example such as this is very rare and becoming extremely difficult to acquire as more and more disappear into private museums and collections. A classic beauty and a joy to drive, this well-documented no-stories 289 Cobra is ready to thrill and reward its next steward.

  • Weber certainly made a serie of 4 barrel carbs for certain Ferrari's....why put 2 4 barrel Webers where one saw 4 2 barrel DCOE's? Drivability on the street? Were Holley's not yet available that year?.....

An intersting story, no doubt about it....

  • @midatlanticcycle I see, I knew they were either Carters(at 1st) or Holleys(later in production), but I wasn't exact on which style of each. Thanks for clearing that up :)

  • @06gtdriver actually carter WCFB style 4 barrel carbs

  • which chassis number?

Ummmm, if you listen to the video, the second owner put "4 down-draught webers", meaning 4 two throat webers(as is the classic set-up for V-8 engines). When the car was restored, it was re-equipped with the proper 2X4 BBL carbs(either Carter AFBs or Holley 4150s, which are both correct from my understanding) on the appropriate intake manifold.

    Cheers!
