Clover seed should be inoculated with rhizobia bacteria before planting. Farmers can save money by inoculating their own seed -- if they do it correctly, said Dr. Gerald Evers, Texas AgriLIfe Research scientist.
Too often, farmers fill up the seed boxes of their planters, sprinkle on some inoculant, then stir it around, he said.
The best method is to use a portable cement mixer, Evers said.
