Hare Krishna Invocation Prayer for Mayor Tom Leppert, City Council Meeting

I was invited to give the invocation prayer at the City Council Meeting by the secretary of the Mayor. She turned out to be one of the my temple tour students from last year. It was not until I came from the private passage from the Mayor's office to the meeting room that I got nervous. Coming around the corner into the hall, noticing about 400 people in the audience and many film crews of various TV stations.

Invocation:Om Ajnana tirirandasya Jnanajana shalakaya
Chakshur umilitam jena tasmai shri guruve namah

Oh Lord, you are the dearest well wishing friend of all. You even accompany us, in our very own hearts, to give us guidance.

But due the independence that love requires, this foolish soul, myself, has turned away from you. I now, in my foolishness, misidentify my body as the self and thus I look upon others in inequality.

Oh Lord, with your shining torchlight of knowledge and mercy, please grace us so that we may see all this clearly. That we may know that all, are your sons and daughters, and you are our father, known by many names.

Oh Lord, Sri Krishna, please grant us all this wisdom, for such knowledge enable us to act in a way the benefits all. Allow us to conduct the affairs of the city of Dallas in this wisdom for the benefit and happiness of all it citizens

And now I will read a verse from scripture. Bhagavad Gita. Chapter 2 Text 65
Nama om vishnu padaya krishna presthaya bhutale
srimate prahladananda swamin iti namine

Nama om vishnu padaya krishna presthaya bhutale
srimate bhaktivedanta swamin iti namine

Namaste sarasvati deve gauravani pracharine
nirvishesha shunyavadi pashchatya desha tarine

On achievement of the causeless mercy of the Lord the threefold miseries of material existence exist no longer; in such satisfied consciousness, one's intelligence is soon well established.
