For the most part, Optimus and Megatron are equals as far as fighting strength goes. This incarnation of Megatron is supposed to be much MUCH stronger than Optimus. If you've read the prequel comic known as "Transformers: Defiance", you'll see that Megatron is in fact high protector and supreme commander of Cybertron. Even Optimus answered to Megatron back then before The Fallen corrupted Megatron. However in ROTF, Megatron looked like such a bitch! Megatron is no humble and loyal sidekick!

Not really, "dude". If you actually read the comic, you'd see that Optimus wasn't a spiritual leader. He held some sort of rank in the military. He was more like the chief of police or some equivalent to the position on Cybertron.
As far as Megatron in the second film, it's ironic because all the marketing for ROTF stated that Megatron was now much stronger due to absorbing the Allspark. He "now had the power to destroy Prime". Chalk it up to lazy film writing.

@DeadmanInc336 dude, high lord protector is the military leader of cybertron, while prime is only spiritual leader, ofcourse a General can beat up a priest if he wants to. the reason why megatron was pathetic in 2nd and 3rd movie is because he actually died in the 1st movie, and was repaired with weaker parts,

2007 Megatron was friggin badass. 2009 Megatron sucked. 2011 Megatron REALLY sucked.
