@superserial1 I lived in Houston in the 80's & heard from someone else that Ed had a cocaine problem. I always thought Marvin Zindler was more likely to do coke as high strung as he was.
I think that this particular clip is NOT from the 10 pm news, but rather, from what might have been a late-night update during Channel 13's local programming. During the newscasts, you'd usually see Ed standing in front of the maps and have the report thrown to and from him by Dave Ward. This clip is completely separate.
I remember when the 3 day forecast at the end even before that one was like a red, blue and green chart display that Ed pushed a switch and it was like sideways mini blinds in a window that displayed the forcast. He used that pointer for quite a while, and he also would have a lucky rabbits foot and the end of it. Does this bring back MEMORIES!
according to that weather map, wisconsin owned the upper penisula of michigan, there is no border between the two! i must of missed that history lesson. amazing to see how weather forecasts have changed since 79'
I was born in 1979, so I don't remember the days of pointers and Ed drawing on the weather map. I'm curious as to when chroma-key graphics were introduced in the weather report. I know from seeing the handful of late 70s KTRK news clips that they were in use as far back as 1977.
As for the 13 logo, it had quite a few variations-long tail, short tail, no tail, tilted, tilted with border, straight with border, and Texas flag background. Any others?
