On Nov. 4, Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation, gave testimony before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs that called for a renewed focus on the U.S.-China relationship with respect to climate and environmental issues. This clips features his opening statement.

Wirth proposed that a high-level position be created within the State Department to manage bilateral cooperation on a new model of sustainable economic growth based on increasing use of clean energy. He also suggested that U.S. and Chinese scientists, academics, and engineers work together on the next generation of technology.

  • A good purpose, hope it can be achieved, because at the rate China is growing industrially, purchasing consumer goods, etc., there's exponentially more potential for contaminating the world than the US has managed to do.
