The titles given to this clip are misleading. He is describing time since the origin of life, not since planetary formation. Also note that he is using Darwin's piano in Down house ! Rather appropriate.
Carl Sagan is my favourite celebrity scientist still, but this analogy is much better than the cosmological calender in my own personal perspective.
