Welcome to the Tyler Boshae Foundation! Our organization was established for the purpose of raising funds to help bring relief to Tyler Boshae (age 23) who has suffered with Tourette Syndrome since age 9. Recently, Tyler's symptoms have deteriorated to the point where he is hospitalized.
Tyler has been approved to be evaluated to receive a special brain surgery to implant electrodes to help reduce his tics. This procedure is called DBS-Deep Brain Stimulation.

Jonah- In reply(for my fiancee Ty), noises do not aggrevate his tics. He does have an extreme sensitivity to high heat. It tends to make his tics worse. Anxiety and anger also make his tics worse. Rage on the other hand (according to Ty) seems to reduce his tics because his concentration is elsewhere. As for the DBS helping with all of the symptoms, we're not sure, we'll have to wait and see. Everyone reacts differently to procedures.
were all those injuries Tourette related? I feel your pain. my neck is constantly stiff and terribly painful from my violent head shaking, and I fractured my knuckles at least once. good luck mate.
All of the injuries are related to Ty's tourette syndrome. He also has violent head jerks. Lately he's been having a tic where he throws himself on the floor. He twists his ankles and twists his hip in the wrong direction more often than any other tic.
Do you have trouble with noises triggerng tics or temperatures or oversensitivity to touch or rage? Does deep Brain Stimulation help withall symptoms or only tics.
I don't know if these replies are getting through. I've tried to reply to you 3 or 4 times already. I just wanted to answer some of your questions. Noise and touch don't really trigger any tics. Extreme heat increases the amount of tics Ty experiences, and rage tends to decrease them. As for the last question on the DBS, we wont know until after Ty has the surgery. ( Just so you know, I'm Ty's fiancee.)
I understand what you feel like. I became worse as an adult, and kept my tics private.
Screaming has been a new problem, I get brused up, but and the muscle spasms Hurt, and I slam my head on things, but I also get better and worse. I do not try medications because Tourettes is changes so much on it's own in strange patterns that it is hard to show if the waxing and waning on the drugs is the drugs working and then not working well anymore or if it is what would happen anyway,
Tyler you always were awesome! I will always remember you as the funny kid from Hamilton who wore the hot dog hat at the Polson speech and drama meet. I hope the best comes your way.
