On April 27, 2010 Vancouver Island residents, local farmers, grocers, local sustainable businesses and restaurants will be drawn together at the Ambrosia Conference and Event Centre with the solidified intention of opening the conversation and prompting the community to make a difference in the world - right here in our own backyards - by applying small changes with our daily spending habits and food choices.

Raising the community support and cultivating its awareness about these issues set the stage for some real positive change for Vancouver Island, says Scott Kelly, president of Gentle Earth Products. We have chosen Lifecycles as the official charity for our event because their mission resonates with our goals. Lifecycles works pro-actively to create community projects that are innovative and accessible to everyone in order to increase awareness around food, health and sustainability.

Local experts, including Carolyn Herriot (Zero Mile Diet), Brian Gordon (Canada's certified speaker of the Inconvenient Truth) and Nick Versteeg (Island's On The Edge) will speak out on climate change, local food production, food security on Vancouver Island, growing your own garden and sustainable practices for our daily lives.

Display Booths and presentations have been planned to keep visitors pleasantly engaged and informed throughout the evening. Local businesses will feature sustainable options for everyday lifestyles from eating in to dinner out to grocery shopping, gardening, haircuts, clothing, composting, cleaning and more.

"We want to share our passion and develop an awareness of the value of sustainable community development. There is a numerous sustainable community initiatives and solutions that are already in place and easily accessible. Vancouver Islanders will be glad to get all that information by coming to our event," says Renate Nahser-Ringer, Social Enterprise Coordinator at Lifecycles.

A portion of the proceeds for this event will be going to Lifecycles. The other part will be used for creation of a solidified community information portal www.HomeGrownCollective.ca that will act to educate and inspire Vancouver Islanders to select local food, support local businesses and take part in sustainable initiatives to work collectively for increased food security and sustainability on our Vancouver Island.

With engaging talks, everyday solutions, along with tasty samples from local food, this event is not one to miss. Everyone is welcome.
