The use of intoxication to escape life is no different than resorting to religion, video games and other forms of unhealthy distractions that keep you from DOING anything about your problems. Why are drugs illegal? I met a guy who's hooked on video games and he's the most sexual frustrated violent mother fucker I ever met, so don't tell me we want to keep people safe when even our own police force abuses it's own people.
