I agree. I also think that it's a kind of ego trip for the redistributist. You sometimes feel good about giving away your own money to help someone else, or as a gift at Christmas time for example. The redistributing politician convinces himself he's playing Santa Claus, that he's some kind of philanthropist, when in reality he's just a thief.
When considering the poor manner in which resources are distributed by top down government planning one can only conclude that the purpose of egalitarianism revels an authoritarian desire to take wealth rather that to provide a useful service.
