  • You only need a few percent of folks to be vocally atheist to shatter the taboo of questioning religion.

And once you shatter that taboo, religions have a tough time actually withstanding open scrutiny (which is why religions put that taboo in place to begin with). Then you get to a "tipping point", where it becomes embarrassing to believe ancient superstitions.

At least that's how I hope this will play out!

  • 2%?

    Bullshit

  • @Daverdare last part of your statement is true. but having like minded ppl spending time together is not wrong at all. not every gathering is MORE LIKE AN RELIGION. we are social animals and we share our ideas and emotions by talking and meeting with each other. summer camps r just fine, as long as they dont start blowin up themselves in the name of FSM ;).

  • @chadd990 Sigh... That's the thing, these people had the choice not to do what Hitler told them too... But they did so, regardless of mental wellbeing they are accountable for their actions...

When a mentally unstable person kills someone they still get thrown into a mental asylum, right?

If you understand what I mean, then you know where I come from... But I digress, Religion does not persuade people to go to wars, it is people's interpretation and their own ignorance that leads to that...

  • @densetsuhadouken116

    Right.

There are a couple people I want you to compare to religion. First, Adolf Hitler. How many jews died in WWII because of him? Of course, he didn't kill them. He just persuaded his army to do it for him. So by your logic, why should you hold him accountable?

Second, Charles Manson. To my knowledge, this man has never killed a single person. He's known as one of the most evil persons in history, yet his hands are clean.

    Guns don't kill people ...

    whatever.

  • @champjklccmk Furthermore, stop evading my question and just answer it... Because calling me childish for offering an alternative to just denying everything because someone else says this is not childish...

You'd just like to believe it's childish because your arrogance (yet again) is implying that it's beneath you to believe such a thing exists, simply due to the fact that it doesn't add up...

But no one's knowledge is infinite, so how can you claim it's irrational?

    You don't know it all...

  • @champjklccmk When I said "Your arrogance is telling you that you need to argue" I wasn't talking about me specifically... I was talking about the fact you need to argue with every single factor of life. I can understand being curious about things, but does that mean you really have to form the basis of your belief around something flawed offering evidence against something that is perceived to be flawed?

That doesn't really seem to be a safe assumption...

  • @densetsuhadouken116 Wow, I've just realized I'm talking to a nutter... Listen you, all I've done is answer your question. I didn't go looking for you and start arguing because, as you say, my arrogance dictates it. And this last question just lost you my respect. "Eternal happiness?" "Dying in vain?" These are questions a CHILD would ask. Goodbye

  • @champjklccmk Pretty much, but you know what? I think your arrogance is telling you that you need to argue, and you need to justify the reasons why you need to not believe in something...

But let's turn away from that for a moment, I think you've pretty much acknowledged the fact that both sides have their flaws, right? Now let me pose this question to you...

If you had the choice between eternal happiness and dying in vain, which would you choose?

  • @densetsuhadouken116 How is that even a question? Are you basing this on the assumption that there is a God and therefore our own understanding means little? Granted, Logic and Reason aren't what you'd call perfect. But if the alternative is shutting them out in favor of faith, that would be irresponsible! Are you saying we should just accept that we are nothing compared to an all-powerful cosmic intelligence and bow our heads without argument?
