  • Can't make the show because I'm too far away, but give me Jack Cohen and I don't care!

  • Ha! That cracked me up. (There probably aren't a lot of people you can crack up these days with that line.) Nice.

  • @crosslynne: There was a limited edition box set of the almost-complete Allan Sherman works. Short of that, I think that song is on the Rhino records best-of CD.

  • I cant find the original on youtube but boy did i love allan sherman when i was a kid. he did pass away very young.

  • Thank you so much for bringing these wonderful songs back. I, too, grew up to my Dad with tears rolling down his face listing to My Son the Folk Singer, etc.

    His cloth goes shining on!

  • My Dad had the album "My Son the Folk Singer" and played it often when I was a kid. I never knew that the songs were take offs of other songs until I was in my 20's....

  • If someone could find "You Went The Wrong Way Ole King Louis" by Allan Sherman, it would be greatly appreciated. My parents made me listen to this and haven't forgotten a tune. Thanks so much for putting it out there.

    Cheers!

  • my zelda she found her big romance when i broke the zipper in my pants--my zelda she took the money and ran with the tailor---lol

  • This is the version I learnt. I had never heard of Harry Belafonte. Sir Greenbaum's Madrigal (aka Greensleeves) and The Streets of Miami were also favourites.

  • I grew up listening to Allen Sherman. I remember hearing that he had died. I think he was the first performer of any kind that I remember hearing of their death.
