  • i am leaning asl and finding it hard, there are no classes in the uk. is there any one who could point me in a better direction to learn. i think it is importaint for we hearing to learn asl,so we can all better understand each other. i think asl should be taught to all

  • Speak of UK, they used BSL (Britain Sign Language), not ASL. ASL is only in America. If you want to know about BSL class, I am not familiar with that.

  • oh no i want to learn asl. it is a complacated

but still if any one can help still would love the help.

  • Okay. Where do you live? It is depending on location you live that have ASL classes. There are many areas offering ASL.

  • This is a point I've been making for years. I don't think it should be something Deaf people wait to take in college, necessarily, but in elementary school. If Deaf children are formally educated in a language they have full access to, once that language is formally mastered, it can be used as a scaffold to better learn and understand English. Hearing people in the US tend to have English as their 1st language but still take 11-15 years of English classes. ASL should be taught to Deaf children

  • I agree with you. Unfortunately, many hearing people don't think it is good idea. We have to educate them the bilingual and bicultural method. That is one reason why I am studying to become teacher.

  • @famegirls if your computer is good enough, look online for ASL speakers willing to tutor you via webcam! just like any langauge, learning with a native speaker can really help. :D

  • it would be like a hearing person taking english class. i think it'd be an awesome idea.

  • YES!!! It is worth everything. i gonna to recollect the books and buy some more books! to reeducate myself.

  • deaf people should take asl but also show hearing learners the proper signing as deaf people use... for example, my dad's 2nd wife was deaf and I learned asl from immersion and make faces and noises like she did when she signed and asl classes with translators don't sign the same way... my german grandma only spoke german and american german classes don't speak german the native way either or teach it and speaking either like I was taught as a kid in classes end up with other ppl laughing at me

  • @deafpcatoby Uh.... Canada uses ASL to.... We have to sign languages. ASL, and Quebecois sign... Quebecois sign is only used in quebec though. The rest of Canada uses ASL.

  • ii think they should because hearing people HAVE TO take english in school, so our english can improve, why should the deaf not have a chance to do that to master to the highest level possible their ASL?

(p.s i'm hearing with deaf relatives)

  • Good.. I am deaf too I was take ASL in South California. I really learn lots about ASL's rules.. I wish more learn..

  • yep ;)

  • There's so many different Sign Languages though...mexican, colombian, dominican, puerto rican e.t.c. though the language "spanish" maybe the same...they have different slangs and all. so is Sign Language in spanish from different Latin american countries. Just like english..

  • stands for British Sign Language.
