  • You are right my friend but, a small "correction" : this kind of music came from Constantinople/Byzantium.Before byzantium the music of all civilizations was very simple melodic lines.A lot civilizations contracted for the creation of Byzantine music.Byzantine music based on ancient Greek music system(pythagorean music theory, pythagorean comma/limma/apotome quarter tones, microtones etc.) Socrates called this music system "music of the gods". Its true..its music for ESOTERISM!Just for the history

  • some samples of byzantine mysic, one of the greatests oriental singers "fairuz" singing Greek Byzantine hymn. /watch?v=xiE-biR9USU and... /user/vagourian#p/u/10/gQ17qW9bW-g this is the mother music of eastern musics.

  • Hi everyone. I am from Istanbul/Turkey, living in Los Angeles. The oud has a mythic status, its origins hidden in antiquity and enhanced by myth, story, and legend.

Beginning with the name, al-oud is traditionally taken from the Arabic for “the wood.” The definite article al was dropped in Turkish and in Turkey the instrument is simply known as oud or ud (a matter of transliteration into English).

  • everybody says: this is our history. which history is true ? anyways just listen the music.

  • Turkiyede cok udiler dinledim, degil benzerlik, yakinindan bile gecmiyorlar,bu ne sanatkarlik be Simon Shaheen bey,you create almost new maqams, you let the oud speak, thanx

  • Hello from Finland, I love this music, I have one old Taqasim-LP and I have listened it through decades whenever I want to relax. It spontaneously helps on concentration and is "meditative" because of natural rhytm. I think "Music Of The Gods" really is right term to describe this music, no matter where you come from or what is your spiritual vibe or religion, you just feel this inside.

  • Wtf chil out dudes

  • LOL... a foolish debate which ignores the beauty of the music. The ancient Greeks derived much of their culture from North Africa; Pythagoras discovered his knowledge in Egypt. Culture circulates with no cultural or national boundaries. To originate this music in the Byzantine is as ignorant as originating in the Garden of Eden. It has always been with us.
