So here it is, as promised :)
Just a small review and demo of my Carvin, that some of you guys have been wondering about.

First of all, PLEASE forgive my horrible playing hahaha I was out of ideas on what to play, and I hadn't been very inspired nor had I been playing a lot those days, so I was in pretty rough shape for the video. But it's just a sound/looks demo; nothing serious.

Soooo... There it is!

Guitar specs:
- Neck: Koa neck-through with two maple stripes
- Fretboard: 14" inch radius ebony fretboard
- Frets: Stainless steel med-jumbo frets
- Body-wings: Swamp ash
- Top: Flamed koa
- Finish: Tung-oil (including the back of the neck)
- Bridge: Carvin FT7 (Fixed string-thru-body)
- Other features: Black hardware, Dunlop Straploks, Sperzel locking tuners, Carvin C26 humbuckers, abalone logo, no inlays (only side dots), matching flamed koa headstock veneer.

I hope you find this helpful!
Thanks for watching!

PS: I realize my gain was too high haha and the tone was (to my ears, at least) pretty searing. I'm still messing around with settings. It's gotten much better and it will just keep getting better! (To my ears, anyway!).

  • What did you do on the Custom guitar builder to get natural wood on the back side? I'm going to buy one with Sapphire Blue Matte finish on top and mahogany or alder on the back side, is this possible with a DC727?

  • @Endresen94

Oh, yeah, a couple more things. There's no option for it on the online builder. You'll most probably have to call them and order through the phone, or perhaps let them know by e-mail (though phone is 1000000x better). Make sure they send you back some sort of receipt with the exact options you asked for so you know they didn't get anything wrong. If you have an option 50 and they get something wrong, you won't be able to take advantage of their 10-day return policy.

  • @AlbertoLaiho Ah, thanks for the great answer! I knew it was possible, and am going through with it! How is the service when you call them by the way? Are they nice and do they actually try to understand what you say?

Sweet guitar by the way! Can't wait for my Carvin to rest on my lap :)

  • @Endresen94

    Thanks bro!

Unforunately, I can't tell you from personal experience, since I ordered my guitar online. However, everyone that has called swears that they are exceptionally friendly to their customers. In fact, the rep with whom I exchanged e-mails when I ordered was very friendly, and he made sure that he got the order right. He even double-checked on me to see if I was sure about a couple of options. So I would say that yeah, they're very friendly.

Let me know once you order! :)

Satin matte is basically a hard lacquer applied over the wood to finish it. It's a thick layer of finish. Oil is basically just that; some kind of oil that is rubbed unto the wood to protect it (tung oil, in this case). It does not produce a thick layer of finish, but is rather absorbed by the wood, so you actually get a natural wood feel. It feels absolutely fantastic and smooth. However, a satin or gloss coat will protect a bit more. Message me if you have more questions! :)

  • @AlbertoLaiho one last question. what's the difference between tung oil and satin matte?

  • @Endresen94

It is possible. However, it is considered an "option 50." Any option that they don't have listed is considered an option 50. They will upcharge you for it, and it unfortunately voids the 10-day return policy that they have. You can ask them about it and they will give you full details. Personally, I think that blue sapphire with a natural back is worth the risk! But make COMPLETELY 100% sure they get your order right. If you want, send me a message if you have more questions!

Woops! I said it in the video, but I had forgotten to add it to the specs list on the description. I just added it.

It's a tung oil finish. It is just tung oil that is rubbed unto the body and back of the neck. The look and feel is basically that of the natural wood. It feels great while still offering great protection against the elements (it doesn't protect as thoroughly as a clear coat or a satin finish, but I think it was worth it).

  • which finish is this? is it called clear gloss?

  • @lexluthier22

    Haha thanks so much man!
