Released in 2005 on Metal Blade.

3 is a alt rock / progressive rock band. They formed in the early 90's. This is their 4th studio album. Lead singer / guitarist Joey Eppard is the only original member.

Wake Pig is 13 songs and 57 minutes long. The music on here is played very skillfully, but is also very radio friendly. Nothing too edgy or controversial. All the songs, except the hidden track, are under 4 minutes.

The singer sounds a little like Geddy Lee and that is sure to turn some people off. The songs don't exhibit a great deal of variation, they go through the standard hard rock songs, to ballads, to mellower, more proggy acoustic motions. The music here is slightly more interesting than your standard hard rock radio songs, the do incorporate tricky riffs and complex song structures to a degree. Guitar solos, bass solos and even drum solos are present.

Despite the high level of disciplined musicianship and talent on display, the music does lack punch, lacks balls. I read online that they are 100 times better live. Could be true. Maybe this is Metal Blade trying to get a band on the radio and earn some dollars, who knows ?

I could see fans of Porcupine Tree, Tool, Rush, Mars Volta, Dream Theater and other such prog influenced bands finding aspects of this album to enjoy. People who enjoy skillfully played instruments and music that isn't overly cookie cutter.

Like I said, it is very well written and played. The singing is a minus. But the sound is very easy to get into and isn't challenging in the least. A little too friendly for me, but not that bad.

  • Dude, how you you know. Are you them, no, so shut up. you know hardly anything about them so shush your mouth before using wiki cause it is fake. get real info then say shit. bye.

  • He doesn't sound anything like Geddy Lee. At all.

  • At first I thought they were that Relapse band "16". Those numerals confused me, thanks for the education, as always.

  • this to me...just seems like alot of other bands out there.....nothing new...oh well...good review

  • This album definitely wasn't bad.

I don't know a whole of alot about Metal Blade except they usually dabble in death metal. They were probably trying to add some contrast to their label with the addition of these guys.
