http://uni3d.com/ - 1080HD Video, high res stills, and 3d model available to download - This is MC Escher's drawing Relativity recreated shown in 3d and in stereoscopic anaglyph 3D. I was playing with Maya 2009's stereo camera rig and was trying to find something interesting but not so much gimmicky effects to try it with. There is nothing I'd love to see in 3d more than this infamous place, and having already modeled it years before made it the perfect testing ground. The scene was modeled/textured in Maya 7, and was updated and rendered in Maya 2009.

1080HD Video, original 4K poster render and desktop BG images, etc. - http://home.comcast.net/~twbpfile1/html/portfolio/escher.html

The 3d model shown in the video is available to download in multiple formats at the link below.

  • super awesom

Can you do the same thing with the waterfall by escher

  • @boswachtertjes I had considered it, and if I ever do another Escher homage it'd likely be that piece. The big catch is that I wouldn't be able to really do anything with the camera, since that illusion is based off locked perspective to make it into something that physically works.

  • wow did you make that? how? this deserves so many more views

  • @theONLYsebo Thanks! The modelling took a bit of time, and since I originally did this as a poster I only used textures in certain areas, most shaders were procedural. Then I did a bit of touching up/adjusting, and different lighting for when I brought it into Maya 2009 to test the stereo camera with.

  • @McCloudI Haha!!

  • I wouldn't call this an illusion, I would call it a dyslexic architect mapping out his house

  • My goal in life is to create magnet shoes and then make this... House out of painted magnetite and give tours with the magnet shoes. It would be amazing.

  • I think this is one of the only Escher pieces that can be physically reproduced. The only problem in making a house like this is finding someone to sell it to.

    Wait, I know!

    Future NASA space station's hallway!

  • Good job. However I feel that you could have made this even better. The textures are quite basic. The walls/stairs are all the same texture, just tiled. In my opinion it would look really good if there were some cracks in the walls somewhere and if you had broken some steps on some stairs. The rails also are just instances and could have been better.

I guess what I'm saying is that this is really nicely made, just that I believe you could have made it Really awesome with just a little more work.

  • I am sorry but my brain is trying to twist itself.

  • And Going up the Sideways stairs.

  • Dude i aways wanted to do that reproduction, never had time actually and yours are amazing!!!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

  • Put in some exotic or haunting music, why don't you. It'll be fun.
