History comes to life in Winston-Salem, where some of the best-preserved colonial heritage sites in the country can be found. Members of the Moravian sect settled in the area in the mid-18th century, and eventually established the thriving community of Salem. Today, visitors can see how those early settlers lived, worked and worshiped by visiting the historic settlements of Bethabara Park, Bethania, and Old Salem.

  • @Protozerostar what? people of Moravian ethnicity, who are Slavs and predominantly Roman Catholic or Lutheran, or people of German ethnicity who took up the remnants of the Hussite "Moravian" Church? There is a difference between the Moravian culture, which is wine, dechovka and colorful dress, and the austere protestant religious group.

  • @Detvancek Oh, so close.

You forgot that some of the Moravian's settled in Salem NC.

  • you're obviously confused. This town has nothing to do with Moravian culture. Moravian Church maybe, but that is something entirely different. Moravia is a province of Czech Republic while the protestant Moravian Christianity is predominantly Eastern German. The town tourism board needs to go to the library one in a while it seems.

  • Great video, Jan and I ate lunch at the Tavern a couple of weeks ago... mmmm
