The Fuzz Face is an effects pedal used mainly by electric guitarists, and by some bass players. It is a stompbox designed to produce a distorted sound from an electric guitar. This "fuzz" sound is sometimes compared to the sound of a damaged speaker. In fact, early efforts to achieve this type of sound included actually ripping or poking holes in guitar amplifier speakers. The Fuzz Face's continuing popularity and status as a classic may be explained by its many famous users. Among them are Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Eric Johnson, and Joe Bonamassa.

Big Thanks to Chris Kirby for the video footage!

  • I prefer Bonmassa with gibsons than fender, we can truely see that he is happier with his gibson and found his tone.

  • ONE person has no soul.

  • I think it's a bit of a misconception that fuzz faces always sound, well, totally fuzzed out. Obviously every one differs, and they can be finicky, but unless you dime the controls they can get into warmer, lower gain territory.

  • @wychersprick I did not know that...

  • is he using his fuzz here? it doesnt really sound like a typical fuzzface sound if he is. this just pretty much sounds like his main lead tone.

  • @GraphicFlounderTV I don't know if someone already answered your question but a fuzzface or fuzz pedal (fuzzfaces are named fuzzfaces because the shape of the pedal looks like a face) imitates the sound of a broken or ripped speaker cone. back in the old days when effect pedals weren't invented yet the used to puncture their speakercones in the amps with a screwdriver to get a dirty rock 'n' roll sound instead of the clean tones. later that evolved to fuzz pedals.

  • @BubbleTonic I agree 1 million %. If he did play a PRS it would more than likely have PAF style pickups because thats what he plays AND if it sounded any different to him he would EQ his amps back to taste. In the end Joe would sound exactly like Joe. OH, and he plays Earnie Ball guitars on some of his albums and they sound like his Les pauls.

  • @STRYPER41 that, or he can't see soul (now up to two)

  • @GraphicFlounderTV it's a fuzz pedal. You can just search fuzzface on youtube and find more clear examples than this one.

  • @NvdVen If he played a PRS he would still sound the same

  • I WANT that Les Paul!!!!

    Im sad now....

  • @HolyGK i don't know.... i would love to hear him playing a prs some time, on his new album a lot of his solo's are inspired at the tone of Santana. ofcourse Joe is way different from Santana, but i think a prs would give his solo's a more warm sound like Santana and a little less euhm.... i think electric is the good word (: cheers!
