"Chance...and other horrors" is a fast, scary read that will shake your notions about ordinary life. Chance is seduced and betrayed. Morning is the perfect victim. Emmeline only wants to be loved. Rod's evil career is only beginning. Ruby's passion morphs into insanity. Simon's friends pursue redemption that dances just beyond their fingertips. Hedy's forgiveness is ephemeral and smoky.

While I know that there can be no up without a down and no light without darkness, these are the fears that visit my nightmares and questions that haunt my dreams. They make me appreciate sanity...~ Joyce Faulkner

What people are saying:

I found the stories to be haunting-hard to forget-unsettling. Steven King has competition. ~ Lee Boyland, author of "The Rings of Allah," " Behold, an Ashen Horse," "America Reborn," and "Pirates and Cartels."

...not for the Pollyannaish. Take off those rosy blinders and wade into the depths of life's darkest. See through the eyes of sick, twisted weirdoes and everyday folks who churn through life motivated by desires and rages ... you may just find a little bit of yourself looking back at you from the pages. What you see in her book's mirror may shock you. Do you dare wander into these blackened edges of your own awareness? ~ Mike Angley, Special Agent (USAF, ret), Colonel (USAF, ret), Award-winning Author of the "Child Finder Trilogy," www.mikeangley.com

Award-winning author Joyce Faulkner proves once again that she is a master storyteller. In this stunning new collection of short stories, "Chance: And Other Horrors," Ms. Faulkner lures you in from the get go. Normally a scaredy-cat when it comes to reading horror stories, I was apprehensive about taking a chance on "Chance." Then I read the opening line, and I was sucked right in. The author knows how to tempt the reader and gain empathy. Not an easy task in any genre. ~ Kathleen M. Rodgers is the author of numerous newspaper and magazine articles and the award-winning novel, "The Final Salute: Together We Live On."

Chance is a collection of stories dwelling in the dark side of the human psyche. It is unsettling, fascinating, and impossible to put down. ~ Nan Wisherd, Author of Pathways, The Earliest History of Northern Wisconsin's Brule Region, Echoes From the Past, and Brule River Country, www.cablepublishing.com.

  • The music, the picture...the color of blood, the sound of fear? That is what I see, that is what I hear. Is that what awaits when you turn the page? I like it Joyce. Good job.

  • Loved the music, loved the images (but they ended too soon). They give the feeling that something horrible is going to happen very soon. I'm looking forward to reading it.
