The band was originally known as Mickey Finn's T-Rex but changed their name to T.Rex (A Celebration of Marc and Mickey) in 2003 after the death of founding member Mickey Finn. In July 2008, after some British fans made a petition for them to stop using this name, the band decided to revert their name back to Mickey Finn's T-Rex, with the blessing from Mickey's family for using his name.
T. Rex (A Celebration of Marc and Mickey) is a T. Rex tribute band formed in 1997 by former T. Rex member Mickey Finn. The band was originally known as Mickey Finn's T. Rex but changed their name in 2003 after the death of founding member Mickey Finn.
In September 1997 Mickey Finn and Paul Fenton were invited to perform, along with Rolan Bolan, at the Cambridge Corn Exchange to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Marc Bolan's death. While Fenton was never an official member of T. Rex during the 1970s he did contribute drumming on many of their albums. Finn and Fenton were overwhelmed with the support for the rock band at that gig, so they decided to reform T. Rex. The original line-up of the band was Mickey Finn (Congas), Paul Fenton " Christie" (Drums) Alan Silson " Smokie" (Guitar), Dave Major (Keyboards), Tony Allday (Bass) and Rob Benson (lead vocals).
Early Touring and Albums
The band's first gig was at the Martin Schleyer Halle in March 1999. Shortly afterwards they embarked on a full scale tour of Japan. In 2002 the band released an album called Renaissance and a live DVD titled Back In Business.
Mickey Finn died in January, 2003. The band decided to continue on without him and changed their name to T. Rex (A Celebration of Marc and Mickey). They also hired Graham Oliver as a second guitarist. The band continues to tour today, playing all of the classic T. Rex songs from the 1970s. The only member that had any connection to T. Rex is Paul Fenton, although he was never really an official member of the group in the '70s. Teri Sullivan joined the band on August 1 as a background vocalist.

  • Bolan was quite crap live, WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP. I saw Bolan 4 times in concert, believe me it was something special. The last in Birmingham 77 with the damned.

    OUTSTANDING GIG.

  • I cant believe Mickey hated Danielz? what was that all about? I met Dino Dines and he was a smashing bloke .. always thought they were a big happy family. I am shocked!

  • I have to be honest: it really sounds good.

  • Thumbs up if u missspelt "Funny"

  • mixed emotions. there was only one marc bolan. the artists made a very great job.

  • Yes, it is definitely Alan Silson from former Smokie. And I just want to correct that Alan is a great artist. He is a gifted songwriter, great singer and really good guitar player. You have to know the artist's character, history and have much knowledge about his profession to make a statement.

  • Hmm, Bolan died a long time ago. let his music live on. I thought singer did a good job of copying him. I met mickey finn in a pub in Crystal Palace in 2003. He was fairly pissed but said he would never perform bolan songs again. Hmmm. Anyway RIP both of you. You certainly glammed up my childhood.

  • Me too he was a bit off on the 76 tour and was drinking a lot which didnt help but in 77 he was daddy cool again and sound better than ever I saw him on both occasions. The Rolin Bolan show was superb in 78 btw live at Wimbledon

  • Love this band cant wait till they hit Yorkshire again so sad Mickey is no longer with us

  • i,ve seen mickey with danielz they looked ok together, but its crazy who likes who it matters not i we forgetting marc bolan created t.rex its marc bolans t.rex, mickey finn was a strong member of t.rex and a great guy, but its bolans t.rex, it stays with bolan. you cant change it.

  • Hi Gail.

    At least he died happy.

You see Gail fans are OK but they never know the truth about their idols.
