Controversy and scandal marred Michael Jackson's reputation as the most influential entertainer of all time, however a new book about the King of Pop aims to change that. Joseph Vogel, a doctoral candidate in the University of Rochester's English Department, says he wrote "Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson" to fill a void left by all the books that focused on tabloid gossip rather than his music. Although Michael Jackson's legacy as an artist has received less attention in recent years, Vogel says his work puts him in the cultural pantheon of icons like the Beatles and Elvis Presley.

  • This is the only MJ book (besides MJ's autobiography) that I would recommend to a non-fan. It's perfect, comprehensive, and sympathetic whilst still being critical. Touches on MJ's life, his music, his videos, his creative process, and the political/cultural climate surrounding each album. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. :)

  • I loved this book. A must read for any music lover.

  • Although, at this point in time, I do not have this book, however, I do want it to add to my MJ collection, I'm seriously gonna consider getting it for sure...

I really wish that this sort of thing would be something that people would pay a little more attention to, rather then what the media has been saying about him for years, which alot of it is pure garbage.

And that to me, is just plain SAD!!!!

I will do whatever i can to try & get my hands on this book! :)

  • Thank you, Joe Vogel, for FINALLY writing a book about Michael's creative genius and unparalled artistry instead of all the sensational tripe that's been out there for so long. This is the one we've all been waiting for. I've read probably 20 books about Michael since he died and this is by far the best (liked Cascio's too). I will never again listen to Michael's music in the same way. His gifts and dedication to his work were almost superhuman. What a loss!!

  • Outstanding... so much respect for you for taking in this part of his career and showing the world in a real unbiased light what a genius he was

  • He says we felt a connection because he represents our childhood because we all grew up with him. It's much more than that. It's Michael's faith in God and him teaching us to love. That's what hurts in our hearts. His message.

  • A must read!!! It's fantastic!!

  • I miss you so much michael

  • the sexy man ever
