(Raven)The Lillywhite Sessions (LWS) is a collection of songs recorded by Dave Matthews Band in 1999 and 2000 and produced by Steve Lillywhite. The songs, recorded by the band as a follow-up to their 1998 album Before These Crowded Streets, were ultimately scrapped by the band. This is frequently attributed to pressure from RCA executives to wrap up the sessions and release an overdue (per contract), upbeat album (the LWS were considered on the darker side by RCA).[by whom?] Upon abandoning the album-in-progress, Dave Matthews was assigned to work with producer Glen Ballard who, in association with Matthews, wrote the album Everyday in just ten days. This contrasted with the band's prior style of writing, which included significant collaboration between the band members in the studio. The recordings later emerged on the internet shortly after the release of Everyday, and created controversy among fans as well as the music industry, which was early in its campaign to curb illegal file downloads. The Lillywhite Sessions were never released.

  • awesome post

  • great stuff, I can still remember partying in the hot east coast summer hearing these tunes at the shows, and then 'everyday' came out and it didn't have grey street and jtr and all the other goodies; so many of us love these tunes, it's too bad the way this whole thing played out.

  • Definately one of DMB's best albums ever.....its up there....and the fact that it wasnt done makes it even better....sometimes the polish covers up the grit that makes the treasure....I loved this when it was leaked and burned probably 20 cds of it and gave them all away...

  • It is too bad how it played out, because this was the end of the DMB that I knew. I wonder who the leak actually was. This album fit the times perfectly.
