Actually this was new as well! We played "Pick up the Pieces" for drum solo first season... and it was in pieces... :) Devils were state of the art that season!
@Kappaman76 that is exactly correct. if you guys had another 10-14 days to work ont he show, I firmly believe you would have won. that is why in '77 I marched w/Madison!!
Wish you had the Stars and Stripes opener! I agree with Dcbandnerd. That was a very underrated opener but was so powerful. I still get goosebumps when I listen to the audio I still have from that 76 show.
@smn76 Stars and Stripes Forever is probably one of the most under rated drum corps openings ever. There were a lot of good ones that year. BD with Channel One, Rosemont with Russian Sailor's Dance, Bayonne with William Tell Overture, and, of course, 2-7 with Crown Imperial. What a great year for Drum Corps.
Yeah, I remember that. 1976. My rookie year in Santa Clara. It was a ballsy move. I remember Madison came out to San Jose for the Pacific Procession (the Santa Clara show). We handled them pretty easily ... then. They went home, changed their show... and came back and beat us. I think they first beat us later in the summer at Montreal (if memory serves... it was a long time ago, lol...) Great job Madison.
This was the only part of the original '76 show retained after the mid-season break. The Theme form "Shaft" and "The Wiz" just wasn't working. They brought back the '75 show minus Slaughter, adding Stars and Stripes Forever as the opener, and almost pulled out a win.
i wish my school marched roto-toms.......and timpani.........and pit

It actually has a beat to it, unlike today's drum lines that just show off rudiments and off-beat phrasing.
