This is my seven month old Figure 8 Puffer fish. His name is Mister Puffer and I purchased him from a local pet store for seven dollars. Since he is a brackish water fish I keep the water at a constant specific gravity somewhere between 1.005-1.007. In addition to his tank, I also added various plastic plants, sugar-fine white sand, Marine-land Stealth heater for FW/Marine for 15 gal., and an aerator. i feed him mussels, clams, bloodworms, mysis shrimp, crickets, scallops, and of course snails every other day. This tank is labeled as a 8 gallon Biocube but really holds 6-7 gallons. I am aware of the 15 gal minimum requirement for one Figure 8 puffer but I think it is unnecessary and Mister Puffer is doing just fine.

  • Do you still have this puffer?

  • @justagirlxoxo Yes! He is alive and well!

  • @TheLingTwinBros Do you still have him in that same tank? And how big is he by now? I have a smaller than recommended tank cycling right now and I'd love to put one of these guys in, despite what others think. Bioload I know I can handle being a long time aquarist and fish enthusiast. I'm more worried about this puffer being hyperactive and intelligent for the tank. I've never seen a fully grown figure 8 to get an idea of the size.

  • @justagirlxoxo Yes, he still is in the 8 gallon biocube. He hasn't grown that much since I got him and I would say he's about 2.5-2.75 inches long. If you are going to keep a figure 8 in a tank smaller than the recommended size (15 gallons) just make sure you do water changes weekly (50% new water) and feed him once every 2-3 days.

  • @TheLingTwinBros The reason why he hasn't grown much is because you have stunted him by keeping him in such a small tank and have lowered his life span significantly. If kept in a proper sized tank they reach about 3.5inches

  • @TheLingTwinBros It's good to hear that even though you keep your puffer in a smaller tank you still seem knowledgeable. I do think certain fish can be kept under the recommended tank size if the person is experienced and as long as the fish does actually have space to swim and move. Just requires a lot of water testing and and water changes. Having a spare on backup is always helpful. I have a 30 gallon hex in case he just grows too large or the tank just can't keep up with bioload

  • @27cbrich Yeah i know

  • @TriopsUKnorth wrong do some research before commenting, they are born in fresh water but spend the majority of there lives in brackish water.

  • @koolstorybroo
