A Raydiance ultrafast laser with wavelength 1552 nm is used to athermally ablate a porcine corneal flap. Cutting and pulling aside a corneal flap is the first step in LASIK procedures. Once the flap is created, deeper, intra-stromal ablation can be used to correct vision. It has long been thought that flap surgery had to be done at a wavelength of 1053 nm. Here, Raydiance demonstrates the possibilities of using the longer wavelength for a number of ophthalmic procedures.
