ScienCentral takes science to the people... literally, with its first installment of "Street Corner Science": a radical yet simple concept in which a film crew and a renowned scientist are plunked down on a busy city street corner, and an impromptu question/answer session with the public ensues.
http://www.sciencentral.com/video/
Pedestrians are given the chance to sit down with a world-class scientist and ask him/her any question they like about science, life, the universe, or anything else on their minds. In this episode, Nobel-Prize-winning Physicist Dr. Leon Lederman graciously answers a varied and surprisingly astute array of questions from some lucky passersby. This video is part 1 of 2 "Street corner Science with Dr. Lederman", so be sure to check back with ScienCentral for more.

The "time before the Big Bang" explanation has me puzzled. The Twin Paradox seems to contradict the professor's claim, but upon investigation it appears that these are two different aspects of relativity. The Twin Paradox states that a clock will move slower as it's speed accelerates (i.e. approaches the speed of light), therefore a man in a rocket ship with said clock would return to earth appearing much younger than his earth-bound twin. Gravity works on time the opposite way, apparently.

What a great idea. This should be a TV show. Well respected scientists going out and answering important questions that people don't normally ask. Teaching them about science and what it really is. Most people don't know the rigorous and critical tools and methods of science.

We need more of these from other scientists. Science needs to be "cool".

They used them because people recognise them - including the average non-sciencey man-on-the-street.

You're using a Rutherford atom on your sign. Why are you using a Rutherford atom?

I went to the one in Chicago and it was amazing. Good thing my dad reads the newspaper or else I wouldn't have gotten to meet him. There weren't many kids my age (17) down there, haha.
