You need to set everything manually. The memory speed, pci-e bus, voltage. Beacuse the speed of the memory and the pci-e bus increseas along with the processor if you dont lock them at one speed.
you definitely got something messed up maybe to much thermal compound i dont know i only have the amd athlon 64 x2 4800 (2.5ghz) and asus m2n sli deluxe mobo i overclock mine to 2.8 but i can go to like 3.0 before it ever crashes

set all to auto and then change the cpu frequency go up in 15s until u hit the wall

try OCn your cpu first before messing with your memory. OCn memory takes a little more finese imo than the cpu.

I had same issue. Bought 4 gigs of pc2-8500 ram and was able to go much higher on the processor. So look at your ram as what might be limiting you.
