The full intro for The National from January 11, 1982. Unfortunately, this came from the 2002 special "Tuning In: The Eighties on CBC", and includes narration by Rick Mercer. If anyone has a clear copy, post one here.

  • I hope someone has an original broadcast copy of a "National" opening between '82 and '86. I only wished I had it but an '84 tape I have has the recording end just before 10:00.

  • Someone did on YouTube. However, this user is not interested in re-uploading videos after his last suspension...

  • It's only fair that you show us your Conservative Party membership card if you're going to make smart-ass comments like that.

  • That quote you mentioned does make sense because "The National" airing at 10 PM instead of 11 PM may have attracted many viewers.

  • I'm not sure if you're joking or not. I'll hold off replying until I'm sure.

  • @waivedwench Who are Mitt and Newt?

  • @SnowbirdFlock Don't worry, I'm still CTV all the way!! And you got to admit, Mitt and Newt are a helluva of a lot more risible than Harper!!!

  • @RideMyBMW been there many times, know many nice people there, including relatives. But their "show" is not for me. And yes, we are indeed cozy up here!

  • "bugs me is that most CDNs nowadays prefer to watch CNN or Fox News, instead of CDN news. I also don't like that CDNs are now more interested in the US presidential elections than they are in what goes on in our own country"@SnowbirdFlock

Yeah you´re right, but ya gotta admit, them ´Mericans sure know how to put on one heckuva show. Been doin it since 1776. We´re just sitting up here all cozy with our maple syrup popcorn, looking down and enjoying the spectacle. :D

  • @RideMyBMW Yes. What bugs me is that most CDNs nowadays prefer to watch CNN or Fox News, instead of CDN news. I also don't like that CDNs are now more interested in the US presidential elections than they are in what goes on in our own country

  • "30 years ago this very nite, wow! "@SnowbirdFlock

Wow, we´ve all come a long way, eh?

  • @RideMyBMW Tears to my eyes too! 30 years ago this very nite, wow! This was CBC news at its very best, no wonder all of Canada tuned in. The only problem here, is Rick Mercer

  • The World IS FLAT and made up of six sides. I KNOW BECAUSE THE CBC TOLD ME SO!!! I love this intro and thinking that the world is like a Rubex Cube!

  • @lockenjr I remember CHCH11 but not CJOH. My summer axis was Toronto-Sudbury, so we always got the Toronto feeds for both big networks. I always liked CHCH11 because they had my favourite cartoon -- Gobots. Don't quite remember the jingles though.
