What was Charlize Theron nominated for that year? She did "Monster" and I know she got an Oscar for that, but that was around 2002-2004ish...

I think Keira lost because she did a role that was uhm, over-portrayed and that the Academy felt that they wanted someone who could act different in comparison to previous roles.

She totally deserved that Oscar. Her acting in Pride and Prejudice was superb. Because of her performance, I am in no hurry to see the BBC series.

the reason keira knightley did not win is because her acting as elizabeth bennet has been as well played (or, perhaps better played) by jennifer ehle. Meanwhile, no one else has played june cash as well as reese.

A film called Transamerica it wasnt as 'seen' as it was made on a shoestring budget worth checking out though imdb it!
