Shostakovich ha expresado como ningún otro músico los horrores acaecidos en el pasado siglo XX. Su música no es para dormir conciencias sino para despertarlas. Es innovador en la forma. Escuchar sus notas es entrar de lleno en la conciencia desgarrada de ese siglo. Su forma de concebir la música es eterna y perdurará

Most people don't realize it, but Shostakovich was the last of the "Great Giants"; the last of the Late Romantics in the spirit of Mahler, Elgar and R. Strauss. At the time of his death in the mid- 1970's he had no peers; he was only 69. think what might have been had he lived to a ripe old age of say 90 or so - like R. Strauss!! Maybe 15 symphonies and 15 string quartets?? BTW, this NHK version of 11th, final movement is f-----g excellant! Much preferable to the Stokowski or Gregiev

I totally agree.
I think that after Shostakovich's days.. music has gone down hill.
