donorleone, yeah, and a listen to Gilmour's and Wright's solo albums from 1977-8 show sadly how necessary Waters' tyranny was for the band's quality control. I adore Gilmour and Wright's work with 70s Floyd but somewhere their songwriting went off - their solo albums have no bite at all. That blandness is also the defining feature of the post-Waters Floyd. I can actually sympathise with Waters' irritation with the others if they were wanting to put those solo album songs onto Floyd albums.
