Cass gets Christy a glass of water. She says she's being an awful baby about this, but Cass tells her this is a difficult situation. Christy says she knows this is what Douglas wants, but she can't imagine doing this. Cass suggests she tell him how she sees it, because it might help to talk it through. So Christy does: suppose Douglas is struggling for breath and his heart is finally giving out, and they roll in this machine to shock his heart back to work. That would be temporary at best in Douglas's case, but Christy as guardian is supposed to tell the doctor not to revive him. Douglas is asking her to sign his death warrant. Cass asks if Christy is angry at Douglas for putting her in this position. Christy says after all Douglas has done for her, this is actually very little; he's been a virtual saint since she's known him, with an inner patience that has always been a wonder to her, so no, she's not angry at him. All he's asking of her is to be a grown-up in a difficult situation. Cass asks how much time Douglas has. Christy says Douglas is fine; she's in touch with his doctors every day. He's just putting his house in order. Cass says Douglas is just doing this to make it easier on Christy when it happens. Christy declares that she's done fretting about it for today, and when Cass tells her to go home, she says she doesn't want to. The snow has put her in the right mood for Christmas shopping, and she's been racking her brain for a gift idea for Frankie. Cass admits he's been doing the same, and Christy invites him to come along shopping with her. He agrees, and asks Christy what she thinks about bedroom slippers with flashing red lights on them as they're on their way out of the office. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
No Cass...flashing red slippers with red lights aren't the perfect Christmas gift :)
