The latest imagery released from the Pluto probe "New Horizon's" ( October 9th 07 ) fly past of the planet Jupiter and its moons can be seen here, with an entirely new slant.

Images of both Jupiter and its moon Io have been made into a map, which i wrapped around a three dimensional sphere. In order to produce an animated, computer generated space scene! Featuring real data from the space probe.

the opening title sequence is also quite stunning here, featuring a rolling panorama of jupiters clouds captured by New Horizons amazing camera's.

  • Great video, the actual number of Jupiter's moons may be between 70, 80 or more. Jupiter is more than 1450x the volume of the Earth. Thanks for showing this.

  • No problem.

its a joy to bring things like this to those who appreciate it.

I also enjoy being able to grab real life imagery and apply it in this way to give a new slant on already fascinating data.

I hope we do not have to wait too long to get a really good close up view of Jupiters many moons.

  • Wow....those images look shaper than cassini's! Great video, thanks for sharing...got any others?

  • Not bad. A couple nit picks about accuracy though:

    1. The rotation in the video is backwards for both Jupiter and Io.

    2. Io is tidally locked to Jupiter, so like our moon, it always shows the same side to Jupiter. The other Galilean moons do this as well.

Also, the polar diameter is 93.5% less than its equatorial diameter, due to its fast rotation. if you scaled your model vertically by 0.935, you'll have it pretty dead on.

  • it looks so fake but yet its so real

  • Muy buen trabajo. Gracias por subirlo.

  • Very nice! That hadda take quite a bit of effort to put together. Nice sequence construction.
