I remember being unemployed for a while and feeling super rich when i found out i could get a welfare check.. the first time I got it, I danced on the street feeling rich.. I will never forget that! it's what makes me feel rich however little money I have ;-) expect nothing from life and you will be blessed with wealth!

A very good classic on this issue is "Man Friday" (1975) with Peter O'Toole and Richard Roundtree (Shaft). It's the story of Robinson Crusoe from the point of view of Friday.

Part of the issue is also about competition for resources. In the 18 Century there were 1bn people or so., now there are 6bn (and soon 9bn).

Yeah, that's very true... I guess it's another factor that adds to the anxiety the documentary is talking about-- if we took time to think of how wonderful our skills are that we take for granted, perhaps we wouldn't be so discontent.
