Marc-André Hamelin plays Scriabin Sonata No.1 Op.6 II.
One of the darkest music of the romantic era, isn't it ?

  • So simple, so few notes, but such an effective and haunting melody. How did he compose pieces like this?

  • @billmarrufo

You are right. For some reason I thought Scriabin was "Expressionist" composer, apparently not.

  • @billmarrufo

    Hello, thank you for this.

I didn't know Symbolism concerned music also. I thought it was only concerning paintings.

  • @HOCOB

According to Wikipedia and other music encyclopedias, it rather belongs to a period and style trend called Russian Symbolism of which Scriabin is considered the most important representative

  • One of my favourite compositions in the Romantic Pianoforte literature/repertoire (repertory)

  • @MagicSkryabin Thank you.

    And Thank you :)

  • Expressionism (official term used for this music)

  • I would call it post-romantic. Symbolist? It's 1892, and he's beginning. He belongs to the modern era.
