Horror of female circumcision - 8 Feb 08

Female genital mutilation is carried out for cultural and religious reasons. Women across the world are affected by the practice which is widely recognised as a violation of human rights.

This Barbaric act is carried out because of a male dominated religion. Not only is the Clitoris cut out but the Labia, inner and outer are removed. In many cases the vaginal opening is stitched up also, making it unnaturally small, the men like it this way. However she will experience only pain through sexual intercourse not pleasure. Also childbirth is made even more painful. All this for a culture in which men wish this on their own female population.

Makes my blood boil.

I hate when people think male circumcision is equal to/just as bad as female circumcision. Having a little skin cut off versus the whole thing, nerves and all is FAR from equal. Also, to any of the guys commenting that it isn't that big of a deal or that it's their culture, so what? How would you react upon hearing about a female dominated culture where a man's entire "manhood" is snipped off against their will? Would you remain silent, or try and find a way to help your brothers?

@NewsPulse You should really educate yourself...They aren't just removing the labia, they also remove the clitoris. There is no practice like that in the US. Also, the girls do not have a choice in the matter. They are young children who cannot make that decision for themselves.
