COMPLETE OVERVIEW OF CEMENT MANUFACTURING AND NEGATIVE IMPACTS TO THE ENVIRONMENT:
http://www.wbcsd.org/web/projects/cement/tf2/cementconc.pdf
I am providing this video to give better insight as to the "runoff" effect(S) that, according to test results, indicate that the PH in several areas close to the Cement Kiln Dust Pile is or was exceeding State Standards, to my knowledge. Also, I had overlooked the "substance" which is depicted at the Route 131 Railroad Tracks. This "substance" appears to be "melted" rock, or some kind of "waste" material that is spewn ALL OVER the RR beds. As I noted, I was at NO time Trespassing, and did not "Walk" down the tracks, besides who would want to get run over by a train?. I was merely 3to4 feet from the roadway where I picked up that piece of melted substance. It should be thoroughly tested (like everything else around here) for chemical composition as it appears to be of an unknown origin. My guess is that it is from the inside of the Cement Kiln(waste), or from what is or has been burned to heat the limestone in the kiln? It is literally scattered everywhere you look on the side of the tracks.
The Water there is really horrible looking, and to think that anything would not become ill from drinking it is unimaginable (in my opinion).
As for the Shipping Terminal, the rail cars that you see are obviously covered with the "Portland" cement that is a very fine powder (or so I believe that is what they contain), and it stands to reason the "un-cleaned" rail cars, when "bumped" or moving, would cause the "powdery" cement dust to be dispersed/fall off all along the railroad tracks which would then enter the "stagnant" water which in turn the "critters" most likely drink from (as I have seen Wild Turkeys do, and Deer) fairly regularly. That doesn't seem very environmentally safe to me or fair to those animals, and I don't see how it could even be considered "safe".
Finally, here is the LINK to the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
http://www.msha.gov/ Once there just
"click" on Data Retrieval System on the left hand side, and simply enter Dragon's Mine Identification Number (1700022). From there, you can access a wealth of information including history, Mine Accidents, Health issues, Violations, and more. Enjoy! I did, and still do.
PS: YES this is Public information under FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) and it is made available by the U.S. Department of Labor. It is quite a useful tool indeed.

what exactly is that they do that is so bad. did they refuse to hire you??? cause they hire anyone and obviously you weren't smart enough. you call me Einstein well at lest i know that those balls you found arent put in the kiln how would they stay in there maybe you should do some research into how a dry kiln works? do you homework dumbass. derrr da derrr

Here is the second step in making portland cement.
"2 The clinker is then cooled and ground to a fine powder in a tube or ball mill. A ball mill is a rotating drum filled with steel balls of different sizes (depending on the desired fineness of the cement) that crush and grind the clinker. Gypsum is added during the grinding process. The final composition consists of several compounds: tricalcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate, and tetracalcium aluminoferrite."

do u know anything about welding??? i dont see tons of this shit your talking about. how long you lived near the plant anyways??? why don't you go back to where ever you came from. you must have deep pockets too because you realize that shutting down that plant and getting it to leave would take $1,523,735.98 from our town. i dont wanna see that you may not care about this place but i do. and since you are the only person who gives a fuck why not shut up.

So your a know-it-all, huh? You don't see "tons of this" because it's mixed in with the RR bed rock. When the snow melts take a closer look. And no, I don't have "deep pockets", I worked in the construction industry for most of my life busting by rear-end. FYI, I happen to be quite fond of the Town of Thomaston, and it closely resembles my home town. It's not the Town, and I am not the "only person" who cares. Do your homework.
You miss the point entirely, you ignoramous.

That "clinker" may just be that. But not the clinker you are thinking about. Railroads used clinkers (spent burnt coal from steam locomotives) as a road bed base for their tracks.
Jeffro403 3 years ago 3
Now that you mention it, that makes the most sense yet. I can actually picture the RR employees emptying the "spent coal" and who knows what else may have been thrown in the firebox for those old steam engines? I.E. bottles, plastics, or anything else that may produce heat for steam, and may have "melted" which then produced the "chunky" stuff I saw everywhere??
However, I still wouldn't rule out Dragon adding to the RR beds with their "spent" coal as they burn thousands of tons of it,annualy.
