Proud to be Thai - Royal Barge Suphannahongsa

Royal Barge Suphannahongsa was constructed during the reign of King Rama VI (launched on November 13, 1911). made from the trunk of a single teak tree, carved into a head of the Royal Swan, gold lacquer painted and ornamented with mirrors. It is said that the master craftsman threw away all his tools after its completion and vowed never to work again.Subanahongsa is the most majestic of all the royal barges.

The crew comprises 50 rowers, 2 steersmen and 2 officers fore and aft. The paddles are gilded and the oarsmen use a stylized rowing motion to suggest a flight with wings

There is a golden pavilion on board to house the King and his Royal family. The World Ship Trust, in 1992, awarded the Royal Barge Suphannahongsa as a Maritime World Heritage.

เรือพระที่นั่งสุพรรณหงส์ สร้างขึ้นในสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ 6 ซึ่งโปรดให้สร้างแทนลำเดิมมีนามว่า ศรีสุพรรณหงส์ ซึ่งสร้างในรัชกาล พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก รัชกาลที่ 1 โขนเรือเป็นรูปหงส์ ลงรักปิดทองประดับกระจก พื้นเรือสีดำน้ำหนัก 15.6 ตัน กว้าง 3.15 เมตร ยาว 44.70 เมตร ลึก 0.90 เมตร กินน้ำลึก 0.41 เมตร ฝีพาย 50 นาย นายท้าย 2 นาย นายเรือ 2 นาย พายที่ใช้เป็นพายทอง พลพายจะพายในท่านกบิน และถือเป็นธรรมเนียมว่าถ้าจะเปลี่ยนท่า พายธรรมดาจะต้องรับพระบรมราชานุญาตเสียก่อน
