Jaheda Begum is a performer and teacher of North Indian Classical Vocal, Thumri, Ghazal, Bhajan, Nazrul Geeti, Modern Bengali and Hindi songs. She is the youngest daughter of late Ustad Kader Buksh, a renowned classical musician of Murshidabad, West Bengal, who developed many ragas in Indian classical music. His music compositions were collected by Sangeet Research Academy of Calcutta, and are currently preserved in Delhi Academy of Music. Jaheda Begum is also the sister of Ustad Hafiz Hossain and Ustad Hamid Hossain of Baltimore, MD.

During her childhood Jaheda Begum got lessons in classical vocal from her father. Her first public performance was at the age of 14 in India. She moved to Bangladesh in 1972, and was a regular artist in Bangladesh Radio and Telivison. She appeared in public performances in various cities in USA and Canada since she came to USA in 1992. She has released one album in Nazrul Geeti "Ke Tumi Durer Shaathi". She is currently residing in Montgomery Village, MD and teaches vocal music to all ages.
This brings back memories! I have had the good fortune of performing in several concerts with her on the same bill. God bless her soul. We miss her so much!
