Elvis Presley Tweedlee Dee (Live 1955-two shows)
Written by Winfield Scott. These two performances are from shows at the Louisiana Hayride on January 22, 1955 and April 30, 1955. The January 22, 1955 performance is available on Elvis at the Hayride, which is where this version is from. The April 30, 1955 performance is available on Elvis at the Hayride, Elvis The Missing Years, The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters, Elvis and Friends, Elvis Thats All Right Rare Live Recordings, and Elvis Historic Collection Vol. 3, which is where this version is from. The 4/30/55 performance has also been released as being performed on 12/18/54, but 4/30/55 is probably the correct date because the original release by LaVern Baker did not chart until January 5, 1955. This song is also known by Tweedle Dee

Tweedlee tweedlee tweedlee dee
I'm as happy as can be.
Jiminy cricket, jiminy jack,
You make my heart go clickety-clack.
Tweedlee tweedlee tweedlee dee.

Tweedlee dum, tweedlee do,
Give it up give it up,
Give your love to me.
Tweedlee do, tweedlee dot.
Gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme all the love you got.

Tweedlee tweedlee tweedlee dee,
I'm a lucky so-and-so.
Mercy, mercy, pudding pie,
You got something that money can't buy.
Tweedlee tweedlee tweedlee dee

Tweedlee dum, tweedlee do
Give that kiss to me before you go.
Tweedlee do, tweedlee dot,
Gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme all the love you got.

Tweedlee tweedlee tweedlee dee
I'm a lucky so-and-so.
Mercy, mercy, who needs you?
I'm gonna keep my eyes on you.
Tweedlee tweedlee tweedlee dee.
Oh, tweedlee dee, tweedlee do.

  • Jackie, you're a real true Elvis fan....I bet you have every recording of his. I grew up very poor and could not afford but a few of his 45's which was stolen by my ex-

roommates, so I really envy you with your valuable collection. Guard them with your life. God bless.

  • @johnnycchops Its Leon Post or Floyd Cramer, both played piano for Elvis on the Louisiana Hayride in 1954-55.

  • Who's on piano?

  • Thank you for sharing...

  • interesting that the transcription of the first one is so rough! Radio for the most part (especially with the Hayride) was live and not even recorded... probably there was an Elvis fan either on location or somewhere else, that made a transcription disc recording... otherwise these versions would be forever lost as live only radio. Incidentally, the sound probably better LIVE than the discs sound even with the "remastering"... the live fidelity was better than recorded for years after this.

  • Elvis infused nothing other than pure rockabilly sound into this. Elvis was a prominent player of the rockabilly genre (rockabilly preceded RocknRoll, it is a fusion of country/hillbilly and African American music). E lived & breathed the genre being exposed early on to Country&African American music. Indeed Elvis was a master of the genre! FYI Elvis is the ONLY artist in history inducted into 5 Genre Halls of Fame (rock, country, blues, gospel, rockabilly) titling him a "Master Artist in 5 genres

  • Elvis was originally supposed to record this song but LaVern Baker did it and Elvis dropped the idea. I love Elvis' version best because he showed us that once again he could sing any type of material and do it better than everyone else.

  • This is totally unlike any other song that Elvis ever sang. I've always loved this old time song so very much. There'll never be another Elvis. Thanks a lot for putting both of Elvis' recordings of this song into this video. 10 Stars as always Jackie. All of your Elvis videos are absolutely perfect in every way.
