@500krg I mentioned them in the context that some languages are both more pleasing to the ear and more expressive audio-wise. In terms of the effectiveness and practicality of the expressivness of a language...all current world languages are only a step or two above what pre-agricultural primitives used to speak, at best.
But that's just my opinion.

@OriginalTharios Unless you took the time to understand some french literature (which does not ask much effort since english is deeply french) what it sounds to you does not matter. This prologue is one of those rare cases where the translation surpasses the original. By the way I myself respect mandarin or japanese but have no idea why you mention them here.

@500krg Admittedly, I tend to look down on most of the european languages. My tendency is to prefer the languages of tribal peoples, and the various chinese and japanese dialects.
Still...I prefer the english version of this mainly because this French version sounds like Shakespeare in French...which is an abomination, really.

@OriginalTharios not the "the right pacing, tone, or timbre."? It's how I would describe the uninspired performance of the english narrator, I don't think he does poorly, it's worse than that, his low and half asleep voice has no emotion while the english language simply feels out of place in the french-gothic universe. no offense.

@Lacrimosus "Based on" signifie "basé sur"/inspiré de... Menken s'est fortement inspiré de Saint-Saëns.

Does anyone else find listening to this very relaxing? This reminds me of my parents reading to me when I was little...even though they weren't French :)
