OMG! They let your co-worker go, but then asked her to stay indefinitely? Yikes! You're right not to take on her fear and her uncertainty. What often happens is, the person in the throes of drama will move on, and leave a wake of drained people behind. I'm guessing all what you can do is just listen. P.S: We always see books on your nightstand. What are you reading?
