I hadn't realized that the '68 election was so very close. From the "popular vote" figures cited by NBC in this video, the '68 race seems to have been even tighter than in 1960, when Richard Nixon was edged out by Jack Kennedy by just a little more than 100,000 votes.
Nixon's margin over Hubert Humphrey did expand a little bit more after the final 6% of the popular votes were tallied, with the final '68 vote stats shaping up like this:
