Lastly, to put it in simple words....The Jews were Foreigners in all of Eastern Europe...believe it or not, most Europeans knew and believed this fact then and hundreds of years before that time. Not only do Sephardic and Ashkenazim share very similar DNA, they are more closely related than the people in the countries they had resided in for hundreds of years.

A great example of Jews being considered a race...and this is the most major of them...HITLER. Jews were not murdered in Germany and much of Eastern Europe because of Religion. Um...Princematt7...You are absolutely wrong. Jews are considered a race. By most people they are considered a race. You are simply talking of Logic and what a logical mind may think...humans are absolutely illogical. It may be Jewish Law that defines Jewish Identity. You are also incorrect about Jewish Genetics. Genetics has already proven that both Sephardic Jews and Ashkenazi Jews...although seperate from each other for hundreds of years do share major Genetic Similarities.

It is against Jewish law for any Jew to discriminate against a convert to Judaism. Since the time of the Torah converts have been accepted as fully Jewish, and this is the case in all branches. We are not even supposed to refer to the fact that they are converts! It is up to them if they wish to identify themselves as such. They are Jews, period.

You can become a member of a tribe or nation if you meet the criteria of citizenship. And the covenant people, Klal Yisrael, remain as in the earliest days of the covenant..a nation. It hasn't changed.

Reform Judaism (of which I am a member) will consider as Jewish one whose father is a Jew IF the child was RAISED in Judaism actively and exclusively.
