African Americans may be the nation's most religious minority, but the churches and religious leaders don't speak for many of us.

Mark D. Hatcher is a PhD candidate of Neurophysiology at Howard University and CFO of Black Atheists of America. He started Secular Students of Howard University (SSHU), the first officially recognized secular organization at a historically black college or university. Mark has given talks for the Center for Inquiry, The Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, Howard University College of Medicine, Washington Area Secular Humanists and more.

  • It was so rad to hear about the starting of SSHU! You certainly help to fight the "angry atheist" image with your well-reasoned arguments

  • Thank you for sharing your story!

  • @twanaj88 Crackman1000ify, that's real funny and Jesus loves me. Frankly both you and your imaginary friend Jesus can kiss my ass, u stupid troll.

  • Refreshing! As a black woman, I had difficulty opening up as being nonreligious. Also a pacifist, I was really surprised to hear some of the hateful things said to me in my transition from many, but am now thankful that there is a place for people so they don't have to feel alone. I hope the people against this video will take the opportunity to research your religion and not just depend on other's words and ideas. That's what being a free thinker is all about. Peace to you.

  • @Blackman1000ify Jesus loves you ! Crackman1000ify

  • "Those crazy adults. What's going on with them?" My thoughts exactly as a young child forced to attend religious services for 17 years.

  • I have finally found a home
