Well, it certainly IS different from the '55 version but, in my opinion, it sure ain't better.

This version kinda contradicts the feeling of the song... :s I think I prefer a more solemn rendition.

This was recorded in January 1965 (with "Hicktown"), and released that May. However, contrary to what I've said before, 'Topshelf', it was NOT released on LP during Ernie's original tenure with Capitol. It WAS, however, reissued on the 1994 CD box set, "Masters 1949-1976" [Capitol Nashville].

@fromthesidelines Your comment is wrong. The Masters box set contains the original 1955 version plus a later live version, not this version found in my video.

...but you could only hear the stereo version on the LP it was initially released on. I can understand why Ernie's son doesn't reallly care for this one- but Ford was willing to adapt to current musical tastes, to broaden his audience...
