Carnival in Yanque near Chivay, Arequipa, Peru

Cycling in the high andes mountains at around the 4000 meters altitude is an exciting experience. Alongside the wonderfull Colca Canyon, what a views, the stunning landscapes, the friendly folk. After blessing Mother Earth (Pachamama) with beer and a strong maisdrink (chicha) we were invited to a local Carnival in Yanque, near Chivay. The owner of the farm asked us in. Great, genereous people that gave us a tiny peep into the true Peruvian spirit. One of brotherhood, endurance and strength. This film is dedicated to the inhabitants of Yanque, dancing like there is no tomorrow, at 3500 meters above sealevel. High in the Andes in the Colca Canyon where in places there still excists a beautifully pure but harsh lifestyle. May theu preserve their ways for ever.
