Yes, I had the same argument with a cousin of mine whose name happens to be Shubho, but he thinks it's "Shuvo".

According to people over there, V is pronounced "bhi".

I suppose we must accept regional variation, though of course you are right. At least it's not as bad as changing the language itself. One guy once asked me if I had a "tab", I said I didn't know what it was, so he asked if I had a "fag". I knew what one was, but I don't smoke.
